In the dating world, these types are considered the “nice guys.” And chances are, if you’re reading this book, you are a beta-type.
3 Omega-types. These types can often be insecure, obnoxious, and inconsiderate. Although they do have some redeeming qualities, they tend to repel more women than they attract. Omega-types may often lump themselves in the “nice guy” category since they find it difficult to create attraction, but they are really a much different type. Although they will often be very nice and give lots of attention to a girl they like, they do it hoping or expecting for something in return. This tends to be very unattractive to girls.
Guess which type of guy most dating experts believe you should be in order to attract women? That’s right – alpha-males. There are two reasons they believe this. One, many dating gurus believe that women base attraction off of social value (popularity, likability, etc.). The theory goes that women want to be with guys who have equaled or higher social value than they do. Since alpha-males are dominant-types, they tend to be the leader in a social group and thus have high social value.
Two, dating experts believe that women like to have “plausible deniability” in a relationship. She doesn’t want to take responsibility for anything that goes on in an interaction. Therefore, it is up to the guy to initiate and lead everything. If a guy is shy and introverted, not willing to push intimacy with a girl, then, the experts believe, he will get nowhere – because she herself will most likely not be willing to do the work. Thus, dating experts believe that you have to be the alpha-male to attract women.
Without going into too much detail (see Chapter Two for more discussion), the primary problem with all of these dating approaches is that they are focused too much on tactics, and not on strategy. In other words, these approaches are focused on what to do and how to do it, but not why it will work. As I said before, attraction is a game of psychology, and in order to attract the woman you want, you need to be strategic. You need to be able to think like her, understand her, and get under her skin. This way you can identify her weaknesses and play to them with your strengths. As the ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Tzu writes, “Just as the flow of water avoids high ground and rushes to the lowest point, so on the path to victory avoid the enemy’s strong points and strike where he is weak.” Seducing a girl – getting her to fall in love with you – is a matter of getting her to play your game, not hers.
The reasoning behind thinking that guys need to be alpha-males in order to attract women is similar to reasoning that you need to be an acrobat in order to attract an audience’s attention. Everyone knows that audiences are amazed by acrobats and their amazing skill, but that doesn’t mean you need to spend the months or years of acrobatic training required in order to produce the same effect. Similarly, most guys don’t need to be alpha-males in order to attract women. They just need to be able to identify a girl’s strong and weak points, avoid her strong points, and play to her weak ones. You don’t need to be another type of guy: you just need to know who you are and use that to create the best plan.
Don’t get me wrong. These dating approaches can be very effective in attracting tons of women. The problem is that the process of learning the method is not only slow and painful, but involves huge personality changes.
